Exploring Glacier National Park Canada

Glacier National Park Canada has an interesting early history. It was officially opened in 1886 only nineteen years after Canada became a country. It was soon sanctioned as a tourist area by the new Canadian Pacific Railway. They were hoping to encourage travelers through this relatively new country. The railway company saw potential for tourist dollars and so began the process of building hotels and inns to show tourists that they could enjoy the raw beauty of Glacier National Park Canada, but still have modern comforts.

Little has changed in the hundred and twenty years since then except that people no longer have to travel to the park only by train. With the opening in 1962 of the Trans-Canada Highway trough Rogers Pass tourists can now drive to their adventure destination. The Glacier National Park Canada is big tourist attraction that offers many activities to visitors as well as a variety of accommodations. The first leisure climb was recorded as being made here in 1888 and mountain climbing continues to be a very popular sport in the park. So much so that in the last ten years the interest and activity here alone has increased by four hundred percent.

Visitors can also enjoy hiking, cave exploration, animal watching and camping. There are now many campsites through the Glacier National Park Canada including ones specifically set aside for backcountry camping for those you prefer to be deeper into the wilderness. Although fires are not allowed at these campsites because of where they are located there are tent pads and food poles for your use. There are also cabins available in different areas.

The Glacier National Park Canada has a lot of wonderful hiking trials for the use of its visitors. There are short easy ones of just over a mile or the longer more difficult ones of eight miles and several in between. This includes the Abbot Ridge knows for its level of difficulty. Only seasoned hikers should try this one.

When coming to the park be aware that you must have the correct pass for the activities you plan to enjoy. There are fees for staying at campsites as well. This park offers you a complete program of summer activities to enjoy while respecting the wilderness you will be visiting.
